Designing Biology for Health and Sustainability

We seek to use design principles from Nature to engineer solutions to maintain a healthy planet. Our vast accumulated knowledge of biological processes presents unique opportunities for manufacturing, remediation and new medicines. I will present our work towards these end goals including making food from air, enhancing carbon capture with microbes and new strategies for developing biological therapeutics. I will discuss some of the issues around developing bio- based solutions and potential paths forward.
